[audio:thefirstnoel-sax-aklbb.mp3]This arrangement of this well known Christmas Carol has a slight pop feel. A soothing mellow arrangement, this will be a welcomed down moment in a concert setting. For those Kenny G/smooth jazz fans, play this one on Alto Sax (or even soprano). For the rest of you, put it on a flugel and it has a great pop jazz feel (orchestrated by David Shipps). P.S. All you jazzers, don’t get all freaky that I just said Kenny G (it’s just a description of the feel).
This is the most flexible Holiday/Christmas project you will ever find!
This arrangement features a soloist plus full big band. Here is where the unbelievable flexibility comes in!
There is a written out part for EVERY solo for trumpet, trombone, saxophone and a vocalist.
4 complete versions of this arrangement were recorded with each one featuring a different solo instrument.
(there is a trumpet, trombone, saxophone and vocalist version of the entire record)
Also, this arrangement was recorded with full big band, but you could use a 2/2/2 horn section (trumpet/sax/trombone) if you do not have access to all the players.
